Nassau County Chair Jay Jacobs is running for State Chair. He will be meeting with the Progressive Caucus on Sunday March 3rd in the evening, prior the official business meeting of New York State Democratic Committee on March 4th. The purpose of the meeting is for Progressive Caucus members to discuss with Jay:
- His future plans for the State Committee
- The Progressive Caucus’ official policy goals, including revision of the State Rules and Bylaws
- What specific steps Jay will take to ensure that undemocratic and demoralizing actions by Executive leadership that closed down an active business meeting last October 2018 do not occur again
- How Jay as State Chair will guarantee that the wide array of opinions and voices within the State Party are heard, and all resolutions that have been timely submitted and noticed are voted upon.
The second immediate matter, is that we are once again putting forward a resolution calling for an End To Fusion Voting, and we need to ensure that the State Party receives the resolution with the signatures of ten separate State Committee members by the close of business on Friday, February 15th.
After extensive conversation and debate, the Caucus voted to again submit a resolution calling for an End to Fusion Voting, a practice also known as cross-endorsement voting. This follows our previous resolution of October 2018 that called for an end to fusion voting. Our October resolution, however, was never addressed or voted on because of the capricious and abrupt ending of that meeting.
If you would like to add your name to this resolution please download it here, sign it with your name and Assembly District, and email a copy to me at firstname.lastname@example.org and to Marie Parker at email@example.com by the end of Friday February 15th.
One final note…
We had an extremely productive Interim Progressive Caucus meeting on February 2nd in New York City and will be circulating the Minutes and a more extensive write-up from that meeting shortly.
